GTA featured in Redfin blog post on interior design
Redfin, a full-service real estate brokerage, has featured Gawron Turgeon Architects, P.C. in its latest blog post: Interior design rules of thumb you should stick by.
The article, which features tips from residential and commercial design experts, highlights ways to improve both the function and aesthetic appeal of spaces.
Plan for the future
As designers of senior living and 55+ communities, we focus on interior design strategies that incorporate aging in place. When considering the long-term use of a space, we encourage clients to think not just about how the space will be used today, but what the potential growth or living style will be within five years. For those who are designing with the goal of aging in place, some of the safety elements include incorporating an open floor plan, installing larger windows for ample natural light, and using specific colors to aid in color perception.
Consider the furniture
Thinking about the furniture that will be used is another recommendation for clients. Many times, spaces are designed without adequate space as the furniture placement and overall furnishings aren’t taken into account. We work with our clients to determine the overall purpose of the space and how it will be filled.
Install proper lighting
Another key consideration, particularly for seniors, is lighting. Proper lighting not only creates the desired mood, but is important for safety. When designing, we recommend that clients and individuals plan for different types of lighting, such as task and corridor lighting, as well as ample daylighting.
